Toys & Play
From baby rattles to balance bikes, this is where play lives at Maisonette. We carry toys for every age: developmental picks for babies, pretend play and arts and crafts for toddlers and preschoolers, and outdoor and STEM toys for bigger kids. Every toy is handpicked, so you're not wading through thousands of options to find something good.
Shopping by age is the easiest way in. Babies and young toddlers do best with open-ended toys, things they can mouth, shake, stack, or push. Around 2–3, pretend play kicks in hard: play kitchens, tool sets, dress-up. By 4–5, they're ready for arts and crafts, building sets, and games with simple rules. School-age kids tend to gravitate toward outdoor toys, puzzles, and anything with a creative challenge.
A few things worth knowing: the most-played-with toys are almost never the most expensive ones. Wooden toys tend to last longer and get handed down. And if you're buying for a specific age, filtering by age range on this page will save you a lot of scrolling.
FAQs
Is my toddler ready for a play kitchen?
Most kids take to play kitchens somewhere between 18 months and 2 years. Look for one with simple, chunky pieces, doors that open and close, a knob or two. They don't need all the bells and whistles at that age.
What's the difference between open-ended and regular toys?
Open-ended toys don't have a "right" way to play with them, like blocks, silks, sand, loose parts. They tend to hold kids' attention longer because the play changes as the child grows. Worth prioritising especially for under-5s.
What do kids actually play with at 6, 7, 8?
At this age, they start wanting things with more depth, like strategy games, craft kits they can actually finish, outdoor gear. It's also when they start having strong opinions about what they want, so when in doubt, a gift card isn't a cop-out.
