Handcrafted in Payatas, Philippines, these cotton bags are made from upcycled textile waste. Each bag is carefully handwoven by women, many of them mothers, who once faced unimaginable hardships. In a community known for one of the largest dump sites in the Philippines, these women scavenged fabric scraps to weave humble foot rugs for a meager living. Today, they are creating beautiful, sustainable bags that reflect their strength, resilience, and craftsmanship. These bags are more than just accessories—they are a symbol of the resilience and empowerment of the women who make them.

About Kayu:

Growing up in South East Asia Jamie Lim was surrounded by beautiful artisanal crafts - the batik kaftans worn by her mother, the rattan chairs in her dining room and the straw bowls that were used to store fruit. Over the past ten years, Kayu has grown, but its values and mission has remained the same: to create timeless personal and home accessories using the highest quality natural materials while leading the industry in sustainable and ethical production practices.
