        Behind the Brand

        Jacadi

On the eve of our exclusive launch with the label long adored by chic Parisian parents, we caught up with Jacadi's Lucia Calvino about the inspiration behind their new winter collection.

Jacadi is a modern take on heritage French fashion for children. Can you speak to how you balance timeless and modern in each collection?

Jacadi is a brand of contrasts: yesterday and tomorrow, heart and soul, Paris and the world. The brand finds its balance between tradition and modernity with daring prints and character graphics, by making colors vibrate, by combining a dress with sneakers.

The “emblématiques” of our wardrobe have always been with us and will continue to feature in our collections across seasons and generations. Always elegant, we seek to give each piece character and uniqueness through sparkling colors, innovative materials and modern cuts to keep them in tune with the times.

Can you tell us more about where and how the pieces are made?

All of our collections are created and perfected in our Parisian workshops by our designers and model makers. Exclusive cuts and prints, fresh colors, refined finishes, everything is thought out and designed in Paris. Then we work with long-standing partner workshops all over the world for manufacturing.

The outerwear is so beautiful…can you tell us about the fabrics and materials used, and also the incredible details, like the scalloped hemlines and plaid lining?

We use increasingly responsible materials in our collections, especially for outwear. Jacadi uses Repreve fiber, a filling made from recycled plastic bottles, in the manufacture of its clothing. We are working on new materials that are more respectful of the environment. Jacadi likes certain cuts to stand the test of time, such as scallops, it is a timeless marker of the Jacadi style.

As for the checks, Jacadi sometimes borrows a few British references, such as the iconic tartan this season used in a parka lining or a down jacket.

What was the inspiration behind the prints and themes in this collection?

This season, we wanted a chic and witty collection designed for the lives of today's siblings! An Alsatian-inspired autumn tale where geometric foxes rub shoulders with unique storks!

Can you tell us more about how the Stork motif came to be?

According to a traditional tale, future Alsatian mothers put a few lumps of sugar on the windows to attract the stork who will bring them a baby. Here again, Jacadi draws on tradition to reinterpret it.

Are there any pieces you would highlight that are particularly well-suited to the holidays?

Dresses for the holidays are always magical at Jacadi, that's what really makes the difference. This season, the colors are vibrant and the materials incredible: jacquard, lurex, ottoman, smooth velvet and grosgrain ribbon.

Jacadi is also adored for its shoe collection. Can you speak to the elevated European craftsmanship behind the styles in the latest collection and what makes them so special?

For more than 25 years, Jacadi has designed and manufactured shoes for children from 0 to 12 years old. For each collection, style meets comfort: each pair is made in Spain and Portugal using the finest leather, good support, ergonomic construction and refined details.
